Hi, I have just bought a Panasonic TXP50GT60 and its not playing ball with my Denon AVR2807 amp, I know the amp is ok because it works with a Pioneer and LG plasma. The Hdmi switcher works the first time and then the amp freezes up, ie you can't change the volume, function ie another source and even the standby button doesn't work, you have to use the on/off to turn the amp off. I have read some reviews that this amp may have compatibility issues with the new Panasonic tv's, any adice will be greatly appreciated. I will give that a go, the strange thing is a 2013 LG 50PH660V worked fine. The full story is we broke the screen on our Pioneer plasma recently when we moved house, we had a quick look at some plasma's and the LG looked like it had a good picture for the price so that came home and worked fine with the amp but was soon returned as we soon realised it wasn't in the same league as the Pioneer.
I was going to buy the Panasonic VT60 but after a trip to my local Panasonic shop and a chat I came away with the GT60, if you look at the spec its not far behind the VT60 but its £500 cheaper. Purchased a Denon 2807 for cheap on Craigslist a couple of weeks ago. Came with the remote but had to order the calibration microphone online. In the meantime I used my DM-A409 Audyssey mic to calibrate the system.
JD advised me to get the OEM remote as some of the frequency responses might be off with the other Audyssey mic. So I ordered the DM-S205. Everything seemed to work fine as I did the six positions as it set my channel levels anywhere between -2 and +2.
But what I noticed is that I got no bass from Dolby Digital 5.1 or even 2.0 sources. I've set all my speakers to small so the sub should kick in. I have a Denon 1613 in the same room and when I swap receivers and connect the speakers and sub to it everything works fine.
Got the OEM remote in today and did a processor reset on the 2807 a couple of times. Then did the Audyssey calibration and it came up with close to the same settings as before.
When running the test tones the subwoofer can be heard clearly but when watching a 5.1 broadcast the sub can't be heard at all. I tried many different channels and shows that I know have a LFE track. Then I decided to recalibrate again using the Speaker B terminals as my mains along with the center and surrounds. Audyssey recalibrated with similar settings as before except it set all my fronts as SMALL whereas using the A speakers it set the fronts as LARGE and then I manually had to change them to SMALL and also change the crossover to 80hz. I've got all speakers set as Small, crossover at 80hz, Sub set to LFE and even tried LFE + Main. It didn't matter, little or no sound from the sub.
I can plug all speakers and sub back into my 1613 and everything works fine. Same sources too. When I bumped up the channel level to +10 from 0 on the 2807 the sub can be heard a little better but nowhere near as loud as with the 1613. This is a strange one as I have 3 other Denon receivers with Audyssey and have never had this problem before. I guess it could actually be a defect in this model. This receiver is going to my father's house i my old bedroom so I can use it when I visit so it isn't really a big deal. Plus I may decide to only connect 2 speakers with no sub when I take it there. But before I do I just want to be sure I didn't miss anything or maybe there is a setting unique to this receiver?
I've used HDMI and digital coax from my sat receiver for audio. Both work the same. One thing for sure the 2807 is less user friendly than my 2809, 1613 or 591. The remote is pretty bad too.
I'm just wondering if this is one of the quirks of the 2807 that was fixed with newer/upgraded versions of Audyssey? Even though the 2807 has Mult EQ XT is doesn't have Dynamic EQ or Dynamic Vol. It has something called RoomEQ.
Or maybe just a defective receiver is this respect? Thanks for any insight. I'm using a 5.1 set consisting of Energy Encore bookshelf speakers (6.5' woofer), EC-100 center, RVSS surrounds and a XL-s10 subwoofer. Once again everything works fine when connected to my AVR 1613 receiver.
Originally Posted by batpig Are you sure it's not just the absence of Dynamic EQ? Your other three Denons have it. Did you compare to the 1613 with Dyn EQ off? And do you have an SPL meter with which you could check output levels?
Went home at lunch and tested the 1613 with Dyn EQ off. Still had much more bass than the 2807. Actually there was more bass with DynEQ off than with it on. Used the SPL meter to make sure all speakers were calibrated at 75db.
Then reconnected the 2807 and ran the test tones too. Speakers/sub set at 75db. Even ran the sub a little hot +2 or 3 db. Still when I started to watch a DD 5.1 program I couldn't hear the subwoofer at all or it was very faint. Very strange.Test tones and calibration work normally. I just upgraded my speakers (worked fine for days) and also replaced my TV (started this problem when I did that).
My Denon 2807 will stop responding to input. If it was playing audio before, it will continue to play the audio.
But volume, inputs, any setting will not respond, not even the soft power button. It takes pressing the hard power button for it to start to respond again. But it will stop responding soon after the reset. Is my receiver finally toast? Any ideas on things to try or what might be causing it?

Is my receiver finally toast? Any ideas on things to try or what might be causing it? I too just got a new TV, but don't have any problem. I disconnected the HDMI monitor out cable from the old TV and plugged in the new one. Assuming your 2807 is not toast, I would suggest the following: 1) Turn the power switch on the front of the unit off and unplug the 2807 from power for a couple of minutes and then reconnect the power and press the power switch on. 2) Double check your connections.
For example, make sure that none of the individual wires from the speaker cables touch adjacent terminals. 3) Perform a reset (initialization of the microprocessor) as described on page 42 of the operating instructions.
This will reset all your settings back to factory defaults, so write them all down first before you do this. Originally Posted by ILTWTV I too just got a new TV, but don't have any problem. Then intermittently I started to loose sound occasionally over the past week or 2. Originally thought my kids were manually using the source selection or playing with the receiver. A few times, just shut things down and let my remote macro get everything set up as expected.
Sound would come back as expected. Well TV and AVR were on the other day, I was in the hallway and heard a mild 'snap' or 'pop' though the speakers just as all sound dropped out.
Had a feeling something not good just happened. Tried to shut unit off and let it cool to room temp, turn it back on, no change. Also noticed that while I could change the video, the Volume as not responsive from either the remote or volume control. Although I had no sound, I could see the Volume level would not change.
I have started to search the Internet and there seems to be a number of cases where the AVR's in this era/family have lost all audio and many of the post point to a problem with the audio DSP chip or board. Some reference the Sharc DSP chip? Not sure if my unit has the Sharc chip, I have popped the top to inspect fuses, look and smell for damage(d) components, looked for leaking or bulged capacitors. So far, everything on the first look appears fine. Anyone have any additional insight on this issue, issues with the DSP chip(s), I see the Sharc chip is located on the HDMI board after further investigation. Have you had any success with getting this resolved???
I just started having the exact same issue with mine. I'm hoping some 2807 experts still are on this thread!
I recently purchased a 2807 at a great price since it has the combination of inputs and outputs I need. Great physical condition, all accessories and manual. Got it setup and everything seems fine except I cannot get any sound out of the surround channels (as evidenced by lack of output when using the test tones function). I have read and re-read the manual and I am almost sure it is not a configuration error.
Having said that, any suggestions for checking the setup would be appreciated. Additionally, is there any other way to confirm the surround channels are working, other than using the test tone generator. Anyone seen this problem before and if so, what was the outcome? Thanks for quick reply!
I'm not sure you understand my problem so let me clarify. The problem is not with the Back Surround channels. I am not using the Back Surround channels (7.1 surround sound). I am configuring for 5.1 surround sound, since I do not have a 7 speaker system. The problem is with the surround channels. Front Left, Center and Front Right channels all produce a test tone when using the Test Tone function. I get no test tones from the Surround Left and Surround Right channels.
Speaker configuration is as follows: Front-Small Center-Small Subwoofer-None Surround-Small Surround Back-None Surround speakers are good and tested by switching physically to the front channels. Test tones are heard when connected to the front channels. Currently re-checking wiring and connections.

I was wondering if that could be the issue or not.
Just seems strange to me that the Denon can 'see' 7.1 coming in (as illuminated by the display) but nothing comes out of the SBL or SBR channels. My only real issue is when using it to play MP3's.I don't mind the games being in 5.1 so much. Rabid Bunny, Thanks again for the assistance. But why do I see 'multichannel out' despite forcing PS3 to output bitstream playing Madden 08?
I am still unable to specify a DTS or Dolby soundfield it is currently set up through the V.AUX input on the 2807 does this have anything to do with it? Understanding this is becoming increasingly difficult and I know it shouldn't be.
Is 'multichannel out' the 2807's way of saying we know its not DOLBY or DTS but its the best we can do with the decoding of audio signals from PS3. I do not have this problem with my HD-DVR from DirecTV so why is this PS3 unable to do it?
This links discusses the issue. In games the default output is PCM (PS3 does not do a encode of the PCM to DTS or Dolby Digital).
There is not really an issue since PCM is better than DTS or Dolby Digital. The multichannel PCM would be fine but channels not being used are muted meaning that Dolby ProLogic IIx cannot be applied with out extra measures.
This is more of an issue for PS2 games, Audio playback, and Divx playback. The multichannel out is the way of the 2807 saying the input is PCM Audio and no decode is necessary. RabidBunny PS I looked into these issue a bit before I got my AVR-2807, don't feel bad about having difficulty understanding it. I put an Antec Laptop cooler (the aluminum one that has the two 70mm fans) on top of it upside down so it sucks out the hot air but that doesn't seem to help. Either the 2807 is really overheating and it's shutting off to protect itself or it thinks it's overheating. It does feel pretty warm but not terribly hot.
When it turns off I just have fairly loud but not so loud that I think it couldn't handle it. Any recommendations?
Well if anyone cares.I figured out my problem. I kept on thinking it was overheating but I was heading down the wrong path. After I put two fans on top of it and one below it creating a path of air through the amp at fairly high speeds and it kept shutting off I thought maybe it wasn't overheating at all. I remembered that at my old house it didn't do this at all. At my new house I ran wires in the walls and in the attic to the rear wall using cut-in boxes, banana plugs, the whole deal. I started to think my wiring was bad so I unplugged each wire one at a time trying to see if it would stop shutting off. When I unplugged the rear left speaker wire it worked perfectly.
I unscrewed both plates and couldn't see anything shorting out. Figuring I would have to run new wire I started screwing everything back together while I had a Blu-ray playing still. As I screwed in the back plate the speaker cut off. I realized that the banana plugs were touching the foil backing of the insulation and that was causing the system to shut off. Glad to hear you found the issue and have it resolved. I really love this receiver, i had previoulsy used the 2805 (silver) and its only gotten better with the new series. I was mostly excited about the audessey system and room set-up eq. Unfortunately the sound was like crap. I ran the set-up twice and the numbers didnt really change (maybe 0.5dB). The dam thing had my center level so low, i could hardly here any dialogue because the fronts were cranked up. In the end i have all those settings off and adujusted the levels manually, and now i can here what someone is saying on screen.
As a side not, i like the styling of the 2807 over the newer look of the XX08 series. The Gold lettering is much more classic to Denon and the square flat face is sharper than the gay rounded look of the new series. Also the 2807/2805 and the speaker binding posts off to the right side of the rear panel. I noticed the 2808 has the binding posts in the center of the rear panel. This is a huge issue for me because i have the receiver on a rack which has a center post on the back.
There would be no way i could plug in the speaker cables with a 2808. Originally Posted by tn001d I was mostly excited about the audessey system and room set-up eq. Unfortunately the sound was like crap. I ran the set-up twice and the numbers didnt really change (maybe 0.5dB).

RabidBunny PS I looked into these issue a bit before I got my AVR-2807, don't feel bad about having difficulty understanding it. PCM better than Dolby or DTS? Yes, provided it's uncompressed PCM on a BD disc and you're comparing it to a normalnot high defDolby/DTS soundtrack If your PCM is coming from the decoding of a Dolby or DTS soundtrack, the PCM is no better than the Dolby/DTS and that's regardless of whether or not the Dolby/DTS track is from one of their new high def formats or the older formats in use on DVDs. In this case the PCM is simply an intermediate digital form of the Dolby/DTS digital bitstream into which the bitstream has to be decoded in order for a DAC to be able to convert the soundtrack to analog for playback by your receiver.
PCM in this case is no better and no worse than the Dolby/DTS soundtrack it comes from. It's simply that soundtrack in another digital form.
I think some people may be arguing for quite a while yet whether an uncompressed PCM soundtrack on a BD disc is better than the highest def Dolby or DTS soundtracks using lossless compression. Provided bit rates and sampling frequency are the same and the Dolby or DTS track isn't adding anything extra like dialog normalisation to the PCM data, there should be no difference in theory.
Hello, Ive read all the posts I could re: the Xbox 360 and 2807 issue, however none of them are about the newer Xbox 360s with HDMI so I wondered if this were different. I have an Xbox 360 elite using HDMI going to the 2807 than component from the reciever to my Sony XBR 4. In previous posts about xbox - component - reciever - HDMI - HDTV people were told to turn ON the 'analog to HDMI convert', however I am going from digital to analog.
So what do I do? Anyhow, I have sound but no video. Any suggestions on settings that would allow me to see the video as well? Question 2: Would it solve all my issues if I just got a second HDMI cord so that it was HDMI from xbox to reciever and HDMI from reciever to TV???
Would this be output at 1080p? Thanks ahead of time.

Zsolt i'm not sure this will help you, but i just tried to set up my xbox360 today using the optical wire and the massive modular plug to the components on the back of the receiver.
Unfortunately, nothing i did, would show the video. Audio was ok. In the end, i just used a HDMI cable from the xbox360 to the reciever and i have no issues with video or audio. As a matter of fact, i think the picture is sharper now than it was when i was running the component cable directly to the tv. If the HDMI input is 1080p, the HDMI output will be 1080p. Here is a stupid question that i haven't found an answer for yet, as previously posted, i bought an open box 987 and it has the wrong remote, is there a way to tune the radio stations on the receiver w/o the remote?
Once it's on the tuner mode, the directions i think say use the directional pads to adjust the stations, but it's not working. The directional pad buttons work for setting up the system, but not for tuning. I'm in the process of trying to procure a remote for the system (rc1051 or rc1030), but until then, is there something i can do? Tia mike I'm not aware of any way to tune radio stations on the 2807 without the remote, unless you have presets already defined (press Tuning Preset on the receiver and then change by turning the function knob). The directional pads (both receiver and remote) are not used for radio channels.

If you're ever in the hartford ct area, first round is on me! I've been catching up on this thread since I got my open-box 987 a week ago. I finally got it hooked up this past weekend and am pretty happy with it! The component-1 video in doesn't seem to work, but I can live without it for now. I noticed several posts from a month ago asking about banana plugs. They definitely do make it A LOT easier to hook up speaker wire. But they don't have to be that expensive.
Monoprice.com carries them for $1.76/pair or less + shipping. That's definitely much cheaper than what you can usually find locally. Originally Posted by userb I would think that remote would work, but I have no experience with it. Just curious, because you mentioned trying the directional pad but I didn't see you mention trying the appropriate methods. I pretty much hit all the buttons on the remote. The ones that work on the front are volume, the vcr, dvd, tv selector buttons, enter & directional pad, on the back, all the yellow buttons that choose mode, and the setup/directional buttons work. None of the 5 lower left side buttons work, nor do the channel or shift buttons seem to have any effect. I'm hoping to be able to get an appropriate remote for not much, and since i have radio now, i actually am mostly ok without the remote at this point i think. The auto-presets seem to have programmed a lot of garbage stations, and non-stations, but at least i can make it up to about 103.9 before it ran out of presets.
In my area, that is only 2 or 3 stations that i listen to that are up that high. GeoExplorer New Member Posts: 2 Hi, I am getting no audio from a 40GB PS3 hooked up to the 2807 via HDMI.
The picture is great on a projector which is connected to the 2807 HDMI out port. Under the video setup menu on the 2807, I have selected VDP and set it to HDMI1 and made sure the audio is directed to Amp. I have also double checked the audio input setup menu that HDMI1 is selected for vdp on the digital in assign menu. From the PS3 I have updated the system software to the latest version. After reading some postings here, I have tried combinations of setting the bdp/dvd audio output to bitstream or pcm, and the sound options to either automatic or manual. Under manual I tried all the options or just some of the options.
Nothing has worked so far. I hooked up the ps3 directly to a hdtv in another room with the HDMI cable and picture and sound work fine on automatic mode, so it is not a problem with the cable or the ps3 itself. As above, I was trying to get multichannel Linerar PCM audio from PS3 through HDMI to get Multichannel IN working on my 2707, but was only getting stereo using the VDP inputs. I'm sending the video by component, as I'm an early adopter & my TV has no HDMI. I switched the inputs to the VCR-1 in and now get 'Multichannel In' on the receiver.
Hopefully, this means I'm getting uncompressed Dolby HD from my blueray discs, but no way to confirm this. Anybody know how to confirm? Thanks for everyones' help, this was otherwise going to get me to trade in this receiver, now it should be fine if putting out HD audio.
